Island, showing Elgol with the Cullins in the background.
The Island of Skye
is situated just off the West coast of Scotland, is the
largest and best known of the Inner Hebrides. Skye is nicknamed "Eilean
A Cheo", which is Gaelic for the Misty Island or "Island in the
Mist".
"An t-Eilean Sgitheanach"
is Gaelic for
"Island of Skye", Gaelic was
not so long ago the language that was used by most
of the people on the Isle of Skye. It is intended that this Island
of Skye web site will be used mostly as a photographic record
of Skye from the earliest days of photography on the island,
covering Skye through the Twentieth Century.
